Going green means much more than calculating and reducing the carbon footprint of a film production. The ecological impact of a product or service on the environment also needs to be taken into consideration. When it comes to the procurement of items, a deeper look into the supply chain is necessary. Various products and services such as electrical energy, wood, material for costumes and set construction are often presented as sustainable but they don’t live up to their marketing promises. Green claims and obscure labels can be even misleading. For suppliers, film productions, and consultants it is a huge challenge to get the real deal.

Beyond LUTs: Architecting Robust Looks with Chromogen

Daniele Siragusano, Image engineer, FilmLight, ITC

Not all tools are built for the rigours of true look development. While most DoPs, DITs and colourists carry a pocket full of favourite LUTs and regard film emulation as the ultimate aesthetic starting point, these traditional methods are often opaque and inherently limiting. A persistent danger in the craft is that a modification of the look made with standard grading tools rarely generalises across an entire show, resulting in fragile looks that break when confronted with challenging lighting or exposure on set – exactly when there is no time to debug colour transforms.

In this session, Daniele Siragusano, Image Engineer at FilmLight, introduces a modern approach to this problem by leveraging Chromogen and machine learning. Taking existing look intents – drawn from Viewing LUTs, Looks, or manual grades – he demonstrates how to reconstruct them into robust, parametric transforms that are transparent, editable, and scene-referred.

The talk will showcase how to move beyond one-off workarounds toward a principled, human-readable workflow that is as reliable on set as it is in the final grade.

Infrared Day-for-Night for Cinematographers: Live Outdoor Demonstration + Q&A

Speaker: STEREOGRAPHER / Zsolt Magyari

Large-scale night exteriors are often a major burden for productions. Traditional approaches require extensive lighting, significant time, and complex logistics, while classic day-for-night techniques can easily look artificial, especially in wide shots and skies.

Our infrared day-for-night process combines a visible-light camera image with a synchronised infrared image in a dual-channel workflow. The infrared channel naturally creates dark skies and night-like contrast, while the visible-light channel preserves colour, texture, and creative flexibility.

The resulting composite produces a surprisingly natural night impression, close to the way we perceive night — while allowing productions to approach large exterior scenes with greater efficiency and creative control.

From there, we will walk together to the outdoor demonstration area near the main entrance.

Presented by: Green Film Shooting Panelists: Hanna Angelus – Mid Atlantic Films. Zsuzsanna BorvendĂ©g. Akos Horvath – Dark Actical. Javier Toledo – Peris Costumes Hungary

The lifespan of costumes, props, and set decorations usually ends as soon as production wraps. The materials need to be disposed of quickly. Since there is little or no time to find any takers, these precious resources wind up going to waste. In an ideal world, costume and set designers would already consider the continuing life cycle of products at the procurement stage. In the real world, the eco-friendly approach to reuse assets requires practicability, accessibility, and affordability. Producers, art directors, and suppliers for film productions will discuss their experiences.
