Gilles Arnaud

Bachelor of Fine Arts, Institute of Film and Television, New York University, 1978-1981, Gilles has been a cinematographer for forty years, working on both fiction and documentary films.

There had been important technical developments in the film industry in the last twenty years: digital cameras and LEDs. Gilles has always been very interested in testing and working with these new tools. Thanks to the CST (French Higher Technical Commission for Sound and Images), Gilles have had the opportunity to thoroughly test a wide range of new equipment.

Since 2005, Gilles has also occasionally taught cinematography in several film schools in Paris: Eicar, INA, Gobelins, Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis Lumière.

Miga is an independent workflow and postproduction consultant with a background ranging from post-supervision to production technology and emerging technologies. He has held senior roles at Amsterdam’s largest image post facility Filmmore and Netflix. At the latter, he led the Creative Technology team for EMEA. With experience spanning local and international productions, he now advises productions and post houses worldwide. Miga also serves as teacher at The Netherlands Film Academy.

Aleksej Berkovic

Alex was born in Kazakhstan in 1961 and after graduating from Vadim Yusov’s cinematography class at the VGIK Film Institute in 1983, he became the third generation of Directors f Photography in the family.

Alex has shot more than 15 full-length feature films, including two musicals, more than 5 documentaries, as well as a large number of TVCs and music videos. He has significant business experience, being the owner and creator of a rental and production company with more than 30 years of experience.

Since 2022, he has lived and worked in Germany, for more than 30 years he has been friends and collaborator with the legendary cinematographer Dedo Weigert. Alex is involved in the development of new technologies and projects, including unique lighting equipment, studio complexes for film and television production around the world. Developer of various lighting tools, optical and mechanical systems, special “toys”, elements of production and post-production workflows for the joy of cinematographers and enrichment of cinematography visual storytelling language. Within 20 years participating in various fields of Visual arts technology developments, including cameras like ARRI Digital: ARRI D21, Alexa, special 3D tools for Phantom 65. With fantastic colleagues like Raffael Pollack making various architectural, museum and studio designs worldwide.

In the year 2021 elected as Co-Chairman of IMAGO Technical Committee along with cinematographers Philippe Ros and David Stump.

Stefan Grandinetti

Read Bio:
Stefan started his career as camera-assistant in international feature films (“Enemy at the Gates”, “Resident Evil”, “Luther”,…) and graduated with summa con laude in “Cinematography” at Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen “Konrad Wolf”, Potsdam Babelsberg in 2003.

He worked as a freelancing cinematographer based in Berlin in the fields of documentary, feature film and commercial. His films got numerously awarded on international festivals (“Testimony“: Prix Europa, “Life Goes On“: Emmy International, “Rain is Falling“: worldwide festivals, “The House is Burning“: Cannes Un Certain Regard,…)

In 2010 he was appointed as Professor for Cinematography at HdM, Stuttgart in the department Electronic Media to teach arts and technologies for cinematography and to supervise student’s film productions (documentary, fictional film, research projects). He is the founder of the “International Cinematography Days, Stuttgart”, the HdM-institute “Visual Media Lab” and its conference aiming at researching fine arts and technologies of cinematography – his fields of research are cinematic “High Dynamic Range” and “High Frame Rates”.

Stefan is member of the German society of cinematographers (BVK) and a full member of the IMAGO technical committee (ITC), the educational committee (IEC) and is an editor of the scientific journal for cinematography CITO.

Dhanushka Gunathilake

Estonia

Dhanushka is a Sri Lankan-born cinematographer, educator, and film festival jury member currently living in Tallinn, Estonia. An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), his work spans critically acclaimed films such as “Between Yesterday” and “Tomorrow and Dark in the White Light”. He has served on international film festivals including at Locarno, Avanca, and PÖFF. Dhanushka is currently the project manager at Frame within a Frame (Cinematography Masterclass) under Discovery Campus, Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.

His artistic journey bridges South Asia and Europe, reflecting a deep commitment to cinematic storytelling and education.

Martin Hübsch

Germany

Freelance filmmaker, Lecturer

Read Bio:
Martin completed his studies in 2020 with his thesis about Lens Data Capture for the camera manufacturer ARRI in Munich. Subsequently, he started to work at the Stuttgart Media University as a technical supervisor for the school film production. Since 2023, he works as a freelance filmmaker and teaches as an external lecturer at HdM.

In 2024, Daniel and Martin received a scholarship to develop their software plugin EDISON to improve the creative workflow with Higher Frame Rates footage in post- production.

Tim S. Kang

Read Bio:
Tim, a career cinematographer, serves as Aputure’s Principal Engineer for Imaging Applications. He also chairs the Lighting Committee in the ASC’s Motion Imaging Technology Council. Tim earned a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and an MFA in Cinematography from the American Film Institute Conservatory. He serves the industry as an associate member of the American Society of Cinematographers, and an active member of IATSE Local 728.

Dirk Meier

Germany

Freelance colourist and lecturer – BVK, CSI, ITC

A freelance colourist and post-production consultant, Dirk Meier has worked for
companies such as ARRI, Farbkult, The Post Republic, WeFadeToGrey and
Zentropa, and on films such as Lars von Trier’s “Antichrist”, Sebastian Lelio’s Oscar- winning “A fantastic Woman”, Alice Rohrwacher’s “Happy as Lazzaro” and Roy Andersson’s “About endlessness”. He was head of UP.GRADE, the world’s first long- term educational program for colour grading from 2015 to 2019 and is a full member of the IMAGO Technical Committee, the German Society of Cinematographers BVK and the Colourist Society CSI.

Before diving into colour grading Dirk was co-founder of the company director’s friend in 1998 that developed a portable non-linear editing system that later became the world’s first mobile uncompressed recording system for high-definition video signals, which was used to capture the one-take-movie “Russian Ark” by Aleksandr Sokurov in 2001. His interest in cinematography and post-production then led him to a career in colour grading. Since 2005 he has been working on various grading platforms mostly on documentaries and art-house fiction feature films as well as a few series.

Rauno Ronkainen

Finland

Rauno is a professor of cinematography with more than 20 years of experience in feature films and television drama. His work has always focused on the combination of traditional and latest techniques. Rauno’s working philosophy is based on careful pre-production and sharing the commitment and passion to the drama and storytelling together with other team members.

Ronkainen has been honoured with the Jussi Award three times for his work on the films Tears of April (2008), Purge (2012), and Eternal Road (2017). In 2006, he received the Prix Europa Special for his contribution to the TV drama Pioneer, and in 2020, he won the Silver Frog in the esteemed Camerimage main competition for his work on the film Helene.

Philippe Ros

France

Cinematographer AFC / ITC Co- chair – Digital Imaging Supervisor, Instructor, Lecturer

Read Bio:

After 11 years as focus puller, mainly with foreigners, Philippe worked as director/cinematographer on music films and video clips. He specializes in hand-held camera and ergonomic issues and is fully acquainted with digital shooting systems and post-production workflows. He has worked as:

  • Cinematographer on more than 6à documentaries and on severa famous TV series
  • Digital Imaging Director and cinematographer for five years on “Oceans” a film directed by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud,
  • Digital imaging supervisor for eighteen months on “Home” directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand,
  • Consultant for a major TV series production to redesign the workflow, the choice of lenses and the lighting design.

Since 2003, he has given numerous conferences and workshops around the world. Philippe is:

  • Honorary Member of the CSC (Canadian Society of Cinematographers)
  • Graduate of the French National Film School Louis Lumiere

John Christian Rosenlund

Norway

Read Bio:

John Christian began his career as an actor at Rogaland Theatre at the age of ten and started making short films on Super 8 at eight. This early start led to a lifelong journey in film and TV drama. He has worked on 48 feature films, including several of Norway’s official Oscar submissions, and has received over 25 awards and nominations. His accolades include the Amanda Award, the Aamot Statuette, Gullruten, an Emmy, The Golden Clapperboard, and the FNF Honorary Award (2017). He has twice been named “Cinematographer of the Year.” Alongside his work as award winning Cinematographer, he has been a leading force in developing of new tools for the film industry.

He is founder of:

  • Drylab Media Tech. Leading metadata based dailies content software for the International film industry.
  • Softlights, the first and only both digital Wi-Fi and DMX controlled Tube light system.
  • Remotion, the world first pan-bar operated system ever made.

In addition to his award-winning cinematography, John Christian is a co-founder of the Technical Committee of IMAGO and has played a key role in developing tools and technologies used in the global film industry.

Roberto Schaefer

USA

Cinematographer ASC/AIC/AMPAS/BAFTA/ITC – Imaging Supervisor, Instructor

Read Bio:
Roberto attended art school and received a BFA degree in multimedia and conceptual art with a minor in photography. He has been making moving images since childhood using his father’s 8mm camera. These included early music videos, dramatic and experimental shorts.

In 1982 Roberto moved to Roma, Italy to shoot a feature film for a friend. In 1992 after 3 features, hundreds of TV commercials, music videos and documentaries while based in Roma and Milano he moved to Los Angeles to try the Hollywood film world after shooting the U2 music video “All I Want is You”. Since then, he has shot more than a dozen films, many hundreds of music videos and TV commercials, documentaries and more. In 2000 the AFI honoured his work on “Best in Show” as one of the top 10 Movies of the Year. He was nominated for a BAFTA award for Best Cinematography for the 2003 film “Finding Neverland”. In 2013 he received the Golden Frog for Cinematographer-Director duo Award with Marc Forster for their 9 film, 15 year collaboration.

In TV Roberto also collaborated with Christopher Guest on the HBO series “Family Tree”, and “Westworld (3)” and “The Peripheral” with Kilter Films.

Roberto has continued his work in the motion picture industry on many independent and studio pictures including “Just Your Luck”, “Waiting For Guffman”, “For Your Consideration”, “Stranger Than Fiction”, “The Kite Runner”, “Quantum of Solace”, “Leaves of Grass”, “Machine Gun Preacher”, “The Host”, “Term Life”, “Geostorm”, “What They Had”, “The Red Sea Diving Resort”, “Rattlesnake”, “The Paperboy”, “The United States vs. Billie Holiday”, “Miles Ahead”, “The Fabulous Four” and “Forelock” in addition to 2nd unit on “Bright”, Reminiscence”, and “Beverly Hills Cop 4”.

Katja Schmid

Katja is an award-winning filmmaker and full professor for Visual Effects and Post-Production at Stuttgart Media University. With extensive international teaching experience, she serves as Minor Coordinator of the Minor Experimental Film and Mixed Reality and teaches in both the bachelor’s program in Audiovisual Media and the master’s program in Audiovisual Media Creation and Technology. Katja holds an MFA in Cinematography from Babelsberg Film University and has contributed to over 50 film and television productions. At Studio Babelsberg, she served as a Post-Production Coordinator on numerous projects, including “Beyond the Sea” and “The Bourne Supremacy”. She is a co-founder of the Visual Media Lab and has curated conference tracks for VeGA Camp, FMX, and the VMLaB Conference. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Journal Colour Turn and of the editorial board of CITO (Cinematography in Progress). Her current research focuses on the use of colour in storytelling.

Daniele is an image engineer at FilmLight. Siragusano is instrumental in developing grading and colour management tools within Baselight.

David Stump

Cinematographer ASC/BVK ITC Co-chair

Read Bio:
David has been working in motion pictures and television production as Director of Photography, as Visual Effects Director of Photography, as Visual Effects Supervisor, and as Stereographer, (including both live action work and 2D to 3D conversion work), earning an Emmy Award, an Academy Award for Scientific and Technical Achievement, an IMAGO Technical Achievement Award and an International Cinematographers Guild Award.

His extended credits include work in immersive media including Unreal Engine/LED extended reality production, circular and hemispherical VR environments, virtual cinematography of all kinds, virtual camera design, light field cinematography, multi camera photogrammetry, volumetric capture and immersive military training environment design.

David authored the book “Digital Cinematography – Fundamentals, Techniques and Workflows” first edition (available in both English and Mandarin Chinese) and second edition, and is a contributing author to both the “VES Handbook” and the “ASC Manual 11th Edition”.

Marijke Van Kets

Belgium

Read Bio:
Marijke Van Kets is a cinematographer and the co-founder of the Cinematography in Progress Research group CITO and was chief editor of its journal www.cinematographyinprogress.com. Her body of work includes feature films, commercials, video clips and her specialty is stop motion animation films.

Marijke Van Kets developed a theoretically-based insight into the perception of cinematography with her work titled “The emotions of a lens”.

Over the past twenty years, Marijke also taught a variety of cinematography courses at film schools in Singapore and Belgium.
